A world acknowledgement in Washington for the books of FIL – Varna Publishers in the person of Georgi Filipov (Managing Director) and Boris Kalinkov (author)
The event "Washington 2006" World Philatelic Exhibition, the under the patronage of The President of the USA - George Bush, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) took place in Washington, 27 May - 3 June 2006. From the initial 8200 entries, 1700 participants from the five continents were selected and just 410 - in class "Literature". Among them in class "Literature" Bulgaria was presented by the author from Varna- Boris Kalinkov and his publisher- Georgi Filipov, FIL Ltd, with the VIP books about Silistra and Provadia. Both books were awarded a silver medal.Mr. Nikolai Penev was awarded gold medal in the Postal history class for his exhibition “Postal services in Bulgaria (1877-1908) On 2 June 2006, in the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, the book by FIL Publishers, dedicated to the 125-th anniversary of N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy “Post-centuries-traditions” was presented. The Ambassador Mrs. Elena Poptodorova, the author and the gold medalist Mr.Nikolai Penev welcomed the guest of the presentation which were diplomats from the embassy, representatives of the Bulgarian community in Washington and participants of the World Philatelic Exhibition Washington 2006. http://bulgaria-embassy.org/NEWS/5JUNE2006_STAMPS/5JUNE2006_Stamps.htm During the official World Philatelic Exhibition Awards Ceremony, the author - Boris Kalinkov had a talk with the Vice-President of FIP- M-r Joseph Wolf from Luxemburg. The latter shared his professional opinion that the books FIL presented at the Washington Exhibition must participate in every subsequent world forum in class "Literature". This great recognition for the publishing activities in Bulgaria is in fact not only an acknowledgement for the country and the city of Varna, but for the professionalism of the Bulgarian authors as well.
